The work of Yat Malmgren

Movement Psychology

Movement Psychology or later retitled Character Analysis is the theory of over 50 years of the study of human expression.  It began with the work conducted by Rudolph Laban. He then collaborated with William Carpenter.  Yat Malmgren joined them and it would be he who would complete the theory.

The work completed by Yat offers a deeply profound system for categorizing and understanding the complexities found within human behavior, psychology and expression.  This may be and is being used by actors, directors, notably the late Alexander Mckenendrick who taught film direction at CAL university, writers and creative thinkers.  It is both fascinating and rewarding and offers in-depth exploration into human nature, therefore profoundly enriching the artist and offering them the capacity to expand their ability to transform.

Yat Malmgren and Christopher Fettes were co-founders of The Drama Centre London.  Together they taught and were mentors to generations of actors.

Alexa was part of group 29 at The Drama Centre and was taught character analysis and movement class by Yat himself.  She continues to expand her knowledge of Yat’s work with James Kemp from Effort productions.  James is the successor to the work of Yat.
